How can international students study in Turkish higher education institutions?

The admission quotas of public and foundation universities for international students are published every year in the "Students Who will Fund their Studies" tab under the "Students" section on https://www.yok.gov.tr/. Universities accept applications for these quotas with the exams (Exams such as TR-YÖS, YÖS, Abitur, SAT, IB, which will be listed on the official websites of the relevant higher education institutions) determined by the universities.
International students use these quotas to study in many fields such as medicine, engineering, architecture, law, guidance and psychological counseling, pharmacy, psychology, teaching and education. However, some universities offering programs in fine arts, music and sports also organize a special talent exam for admission to these programs.

What is TR-YÖS (International Student Admission Exam)?

TR-YÖS is an exam designed for international students wishing to study in Türkiye. Turkish public and foundation universities require TR-YÖS scores for admission to their programs. The exam is conducted twice a year by the Measuring, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) in Turkish, German, Arabic, French, English and Russian languages. It is held in various centers in Türkiye and abroad. Application and exam procedures are carried out by ÖSYM and the TR-YÖS Guide of the relevant year can be found on the ÖSYM website.

Who can apply for TR-YÖS?

International students must fulfill certain conditions to be eligible to apply for TR-YÖS.
The Principles Regarding the Admission of Students from Abroad are determined by the Council of Higher Education in accordance with Article 45/f of the Higher Education Law No. 2547 amended by Law No. 6287, which reads, "The procedures and principles of admission of international students and the students, who have completed their entire secondary education abroad, to higher education institutions are determined by the Council of Higher Education."

How can I apply for TR-YÖS?

TR-YÖS application and examination procedures are carried out by ÖSYM and the TR-YÖS Guide of the relevant year can be found on the ÖSYM website.

Is it necessary to certify that I speak Turkish to take TR-YÖS?

Having Turkish language skills or certifying that you speak Turkish is not one of the requirements to take TR-YÖS. The Turkish level of international students is evaluated within the framework of the requirements and documents determined by the applied university.

What is YÖS (International Student Exam)?

International Student Exam (YÖS) is an exam designed for international students wishing to study in Türkiye. Some Turkish foundation higher education institutions require YÖS scores for the admission of candidates. These exams are either held in Türkiye or organized by some foundation higher education institutions in various centers abroad. The exam results are announced by the relevant higher education institution.

How can I apply for YÖS?
